I stumbled across Maggie O’Brien’s work when visiting new studios in Cornwall. Maggie trained at Camberwell and St Martin’s, and has exhibited successfully since all around the country.
Working on the far West coast of Cornwall and on the Scilly Isles, Maggie is drawn to wild open spaces. Often painting on the spot, working and reworking a painting, scraping back layers, and adding as she goes, giving each piece a sense of energy and deep texture. Maggie is permanently experimenting with new media, oil blocks, gouache, glass, often working on slate – she is a true craftswoman.
She now teaches at the Newlyn School of Art, and takes painting groups across to the Scilly Isles. Maggie’s work is also exhibited at the Summerhouse Gallery in Cornwall.
